Saints Win the Palamino LA Section Touament!

Ah----Ahoy Saints Fans, Harry Doyle here, back from the top of the CITI building in downtown LA where I watched the Saints play some game at Contreras High School. I'm still not sure if it was baseball though. 22 runs in the first, 39 overall. The game was called in 4 innings...kids were batting from both sides of the plate. I heard Mike Palffy calling some of the players switch hitters last week, but I didn't he meant it that way. Anyway...after a hot, muggy weekend, your Saints emerge victorious. Totals: 72 runs scored, 64 Hits, 0 runs allowed, 4 hits allowed, 1 combined no-hitter, and 1 combined perfect game. I have a few other choice words about the weekend...but coach has asked me to keep them to myself.

Next up...the Saints will head into the Palomino Regional Touament in Ontario, CA. It will be played at Jay Littleton Field and the Saints open Friday night at 5:00pm vs. the Riverside Patriots.

QUICK FACT:Jay Littleton Field is the same ballpark that the movie "A League of Their Own" was filmed at. Too bad no Geena Davis this weekend huh? Although, we won't miss Rosie.

Stay tuned and we'll keep you Up-To-Date about your Saints and their quest for a Palomino World Series!

Saints Win the SoCal Connie Mack League!

Hey There Saints Fans, Harry Doyle here, back from a short stint in the Mexican Leagues. Coach sent me down there to recruit a 12 year old he thinks can pitch. Result: Unsuccessful. His mother chased me away because I showed up at his Pequeno Leaguito game with a 12-pack of Tecate! Hey...isn't the drinking age 10 down there?

Oh Well, on to more important things. Your Saints have just finished the regular season and have won the SoCal Connie Mack League! The Saints finished with a Connie Mack record of 17-1 and an overall record of 26-6-2. That makes 2 championships and a heck of a lot of wins this year! Actually, this is the best overall record the Saints have ever had!

Next up...the Saints will head into the Palomino Post Season, beginning with the Los Angeles Sectional Tournament this weekend at Miguel Contreras High School in downtown LA. Coach has asked me to patrol the bars and night clubs in downtown the night before...not for the players, but for all the assistant coaches! We've had a problem with some of our coaches having too much fun and losing track of time! Stay tuned and we'll keep you Up-To-Date about your Saints and their quest for a Palomino World Series!

Saints are Co-Champs of 2009 Baden's Best of the Best!

Hey There Saints Fans! Harry Doyle here! Your Saints fought for 4 days, playing 8 games and advancing to the championship game of the 2009 Baden's Best of the Best Tournament in San Diego, CA. The Saints, down 5-1 in the top of the 7th, pulled off some miracles to rally back and score 4 runs to tie the game and force it into extra innings. The Saints and SD Sox then battled all the way until the sun went down, putting up zeros on both sides. The game was called due to darkness and both teams were determined Co-Champions.

WHAT A SUCCESSFUL TRIP! Thanks to all players that attended! It was our largest attendance by far, traveling with 19 guys 2 hours down the coast.

Some things we learned about the guys from the trip:
1) E likes to steal Popham's clothes.
2) Bailey is indestructable.
3) Gentili will truck a catcher if he's in the way.
4) Josh Goossen-Brown: "That's what I do!"

Saint's Bistagne Signs with Twins!

Hey There Saints Fans! Harry Doyle here! We'd like to take a minute to acknowledge Saints Alumni Brian Bistagne. On June 17th, Brian signed a professional baseball contract with the Minnesota Twins.

Brian played baseball for Saint's Coach Milam at St. Francis HS and then went on to Glendale College, where in a small-world, Brian played for Coach Chris Cicuto, a college teammate of Coach Milam. Following that, Brian continued to Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Bistagne, the 2008 winner of the NAIA World Series Gold Glove wasted no time accepting his offer and getting down to business. He is already in Florida set to play for the Ft. Myers team in the Gulf Coast Rookie League.

"I'm told I'll play shortstop and some second base," he said. "They said I needed to shorten my swing and learn to play small ball.

Congratulations again Brian, we're all very proud of you here at home!

The Saints head to San Diego this week to take on opponents in Baden's Best of the Best Invitational Tournament. We'll keep you posted with their status.

They've also taken the first of three against the Bombers Black.
The Saints are back in action Tuesday in the second of three against the Bombers Black. Campbell Hall's Tyler Johnson will get start. Thursday is the first of 2 games against local rival the Arcadia Astros. Alemany's Sean Becker will get the start, but the outing will be a staff effort.
This is Harry Doyle, signing off. Stay tuned for more on your Saints...and, as always...We'll See You at The Brook!!!

Sprint to the Finish!

Hey There Saints Fans! Well, San Diego was beautiful. The Saints played some decent baseball, but their bats only decided to show up either all at once or not at all. Maybe it was the fact that I saw.....mmm...maybe not?

We leaed some new things about the team this weekend:
1) Boomer and Shuster both drive go -karts that sound like a bike with a poker card taped to it.
2) The bigger the field, the farther Palffy will hit the ball...but it still wont leave the yard.
3) Messmore eats A LOT of food and likes to take walks.
4) Coach Cyr really dislikes being lost in San Diego.

The Saints face off this week against an American Legion team from New York in a 9-inning exhibition game on Tuesday, July 1 at Brookside. The rest of the week is TBD, but regardless, the Saints will finish their season on Sunday at Brookside with a double header against the Bakersfield Baseball Academy.

Until then, this is Harry Doyle, saying, Keep it Easy and We'll See you at the Brook!

Let's Kick Off Baden's Best of the Best!

Ahoy, hic up, Saints Fans. Tough start for the Saints this week, dropping a well pitched game against the Astros on Tuesday. Oh, well...a little bird told me they picked our signs. I guess Coach Milam and his staff should get that figured out...too many Chiefs, not enough Indians.

Anyhow, on to the next. Thursday, the Saints head to San Diego to kick off Baden's Annual Best of the Best Tournament. The Saints open Thursday, at Grossmont College, against Arizona Desert Mountain Baseball. Check out the rest of the Tournament Schedule on the Saints schedule page. I'm goin' with 'em to make sure no one goes to Mexico!

We'll be back next Tuesday for a game against OTC Legion from New York.

Until then, this is Harry Doyle, saying, Keep it Easy and We'll See you at the Brook!

Saints Win Ed Panick Tourney!

Ahoy Saints Fans! Harry Doyle here...just woke up from a night of celebrating. Yesterday the Saints won the 1st Annual Ed Panick Memorial Touament!

The Saints faced the Astros in what became a battle of the 2 hosts! Pitcher Ramiro Carreon was a bulldog on the hill, going 6 innings without giving up a walk and only allowing 2 runs. Spenser Messmore, Ryan Doeppel, Nick Wilson each had RBI's. Kyle Wong had 2 of his own to put The Saints over the top 5-2. Messmore closed the game and got the save...only having to throw 8 pitches in the 7th.

Congratulations Saints on your victory!

Next up for the Saints are the Bombers on Tuesday 6/17 and then another face off with the Astros in a regular league game on Thursday 6/19. Both games are at Brookside.

On Saturday, The Saint's Nick Woodward will be facing off against non-league opponent ABD Bulldogs. That game is scheduled for 4PM at Brookside.

Sunday's game is scheduled to be played at Deadeaux Field at USC. We are still waiting on a start time...largely in part due to several teams that hope the Saints will run out of pitching (no chance!).

Once again, thank you to the all the fans who were out on Sunday. I'm sure the players and coaches appreciate all of your support. Until next time, this is Harry Doyle, bidding you farewell, reminding you to...Keep it Easy and We'll see you at The Brook!
