Saints aim to tally back-to-back wins for the first time in five games

PASADENA, CA — The Arroyo Seco Saints (12-11) welcome the San Francisco Seagulls (7-19) to Jackie Robinson Field tonight at 6:05 p.m.

After snapping a five-game losing streak, the Saints now have a little bit of momentum as they attempt to build upon said momentum as the CCL regular season winds down.

As Pitching Coach Aaron Treloar said, “We don’t like to look too far ahead; we like to win the week. We won the first [game], now we have to take care of the second one.”

The Saints’ day-by-day, game-by-game mentality should fare well for the rest of the season, but particularly tonight. The Seagulls’ less-than-impressive record should encourage the Saints to shake off the demons and work on their mental fortitude as they look for their second win of the week.

Per Coach Matt Stone, Cody Turner (Lee University) will get the starting nod for the Saints. He has tossed six innings so far this summer, totaling five strikeouts and posting a 4.50 ERA.

Offensively, the Transfer Portal tandem of Joey Milto and Levi Maddela has been the most consistent one-two punch for the Saints so far this season. Milto’s four bombs have him tied for the CCL lead in that category, and his 25 RBIs lead the Saints so far this summer. Maddela has been a productive hitter late in the Saints’ lineup, tallying 12 RBIs and a .316 batting average.

Also, Noah Williams (Colorado State University of Pueblo) will return to the Saints’ lineup today after an ankle injury forced him to take a lengthy hiatus.

For San Francisco, Jake Brewer (Canada College) and Derek Waldvogel (Skyline Junior College) have led the charge for the Seagulls so far this summer. They have a combined 20 RBIs and have batting averages of .325 and .224, respectively.

Seemingly, the Seagulls’ pitching staff is not very deep, as they have had two pitchers record 26 or more innings of work. For reference, the most innings recorded by a Saints pitcher is 22 (Zach Erdman).

If Arroyo Seco can chase the Seagulls’ starting pitching, they should be in prime position to procure a W Wednesday night.

As previously mentioned, the Saints will host the San Francisco Seagulls tonight at Jackie Robinson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
