Saints eye crucial win over Barons as playoff race heats up

PASADENA, CA – With the California Collegiate League’s regular season winding down, the Arroyo Seco Saints are in the middle of the playoff hunt. As of July 20, they are set to have a wildcard matchup against the Orange County Riptide. The Saints currently sit in the 3rd seed in the CCL South.

In Arroyo Seco’s last game, they prevailed over the Riptide on Saturday night’s game in extra innings with a final score of 6-4. The Saints were able to win thanks to key contributions from shortstop Trotter Enright (Cal State Long Beach) and starting pitcher Jordan Townley (Transfer Portal).

A playoff spot for the Saints isn’t fully guaranteed, however, as the MLB Academy Barons sit four games back in the CCL South standings. A win tonight plays a crucial role for either team. As the Barons try to push for a playoff spot, the Saints look to run away with the three seed.

For tonight’s game, the Barons enter with a two-game win streak after a dominating performance against the Philippines Baseball Group. After their 17-5 win on Saturday night, the Barons sit at 10-19 on the season and are 3-7 in their last 10 games.

In their first three matchups between the Saints and the Barons, Arroyo Seco has won every game. Their most recent game occurred on June 29th, at MLB Youth Academy, where the Saints grabbed a 10-6 victory, thanks to a five-shutout inning performance from recent Purdue commit, Zach Erdman.

Also, in those last three games, the Saints have outscored the Barons 30-10. A win tonight for the Saints brings significant playoff implications and would serve as a momentum builder amid a shaky patch in their season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Field.
