PASADENA, CA – The Arroyo Seco Saints (15-17) are taking on the Orange County Riptide (21-12) on Friday, July 25th at Jackie Robinson.
With three games left in the season, the California Collegiate League playoffs are starting to take shape. For the wildcard game, it is set for these two teams to battle once again.
But before they can get to that wildcard game, they have to get through the rest of the season first.
The season series between these two teams is at a dead .500 with both teams winning two games. Both teams have also won games at home and on the road.
The last time these two teams played against each other was a 6-4 victory for the Saints, in which they won extra innings. The Saints were led to victory by a three-hit performance from Jacob Freer (Azusa Pacific) and Trotter Enright (Cal State Long Beach).
For the Saints, they are looking, of course, for a victory. But more importantly, looking for a victory at home. Arroyo Seco Saints have lost their last six home games, with their last home win coming back on July 9th, against the San Francisco Seagulls.
Their last game was a loss against the Philippines Baseball Group. Arroyo Seco were battling it out through the whole game, re-tying the game at points, and even taking the lead. But giving up four runs in the last two innings cost the Saints victory.
For the Riptide, they have won their last three games, all coming against the Conejo Oaks. The Riptide outscored the Oaks 24-5 across those three games.
In the last game, they won with the final score of 2-1, through a big performance from pitcher Trey Telfer (San Diego State) who had seven strikeouts and Isaac Cadena (Southern California) who had the only RBI for the Riptide in that game.
These teams know what their future holds for them in a wildcard playoff game but must play against each other this Friday night before any of that. The first pitch is set at 6:05 p.m.
