COMPTON, CA – The Arroyo Seco Saints picked up their 10th win of the season against the Academy Barons on Sunday at the MLB Youth Academy.
After their third game this weekend, the Saints have put up a total of 32 runs. The team’s offensive success continued in Sunday’s game when the Saints wasted no time putting runs on the board.
Lane Haworth (Wichita State) had a ground-rule double off the first pitch of the game. Trotter Enright (Long Beach State) walked to get on base. Jacob Freer (Azusa Pacific) and Joey Milto (Transfer Portal) had back-to-back RBI singles to put two runs on the board. Freer stole home to make the score 3-0 after the top half of the 1st.
Zach Erdman (Transfer Portal) was the starting pitcher for the Saints. Erdman had 1-2-3 outs in the 1st and 2nd innings against the Barons’ batters.
Gannon Snyder (Wichita State) hit a single in the 2nd and Enright drove him across the plate adding one more to the board. Snyder delivered again in the 3rd on an RBI double bringing in Levi Maddela (Shorter University).
The Barons’ offense attempted to fight back with two singles from Hunter Backstrom (UC Riverside) and Chip Mertz (undecided) in the 3rd, but the other Barons’ hitters couldn’t get them across.
Two of the Saints’ hitters put up base hits in the 4th inning, but no runs were scored. Erdman continued to dominate against the Barons with no runs scored and only allowing three hits through the 5th inning.
Arroyo Seco had four batters walk in the top half of the 5th, including an RBI walk from Haworth. Cody Turner ran home off a wild pitch. Enright put up a sacrifice fly and Jax Ryan (Arizona State) added an RBI groundout, tallying the score to 9-0.
The Saints’ offense stayed quiet in the 6th, but Keon Moseni (Central Arkansas) had an RBI groundout to bring in Snyder for the Saints’ 10th run in the 7th inning.
Antonio Lujan (Azusa Pacific) added the first run on the board for the Barons off an RBI double. The Barons’ first baseman, Jason Del Villar, brought in a run off an error, making the score 9-2.
The Barons added four more runs in the 7th inning, with an RBI single off an error from Lujan and a 3-run homerun for Del Villar.
The two teams did not put any more runs up in the remaining two innings, making the final score 10-6.
One of the Saints’ offense standouts, Trotter Enright (Long Beach State) shared how the winning streak will positively affect the team’s mindset moving forward.
“It starts with our pitchers’ throwing balls over the plate and the defense making plays,” Enright said. “Hitting, we have guys one through nine so pitchers can’t pitch around anyone.”
Zach Erdman pitched five strong innings for the Saints and allowed no runs. Offensively, Arroyo Seco had another high-scoring game and seven of the Saints’ hitters got on base.
The Saints look ahead to another road trip up north next week.
“We know it’s a business trip and we’re ready for them,” Enright commented.
On Tuesday, the Saints will face the San Luis Obispo Blues at Sinsheimer Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. PST.
