PASADENA, CA – As the Saints’ regular season comes to a close, the playoffs are just around the corner. While Arroyo Seco is locked in as the three-seed, their wildcard matchup remains undecided, with the Conejo Oaks and the Orange County Riptide both sitting at 23-13.
The Riptide holds a 5-1 season series lead over the Oaks, meaning a win today would all but clinch the No. 1 seed in the CCL South. That won’t come easily, as they’re set to face a strong San Luis Obispo Blues team, directly followed by a matchup with the Barons.
The Saints are set to play the MLB Academy Barons in their final match. The Barons currently sit near the bottom of the division but have shown the ability to compete with and beat any team.
In their last meeting, the Saints defeated the Barons on the road 5-3 thanks to home runs from both shortstop Trotter Enright (Cal State Long Beach) and second baseman Keon Moseni (University of Central Arkansas). The Saints’ sole two-way player, Cody Turner (Lee University), was also instrumental, pitching 5 scoreless innings to go along with six strikeouts. The Saints lead the season series four games to one.
Arroyo Seco is coming off of a 7-2 road win against the Riptide last night, ensuring that the season series between the two teams would be split at three games apiece. The Barons, on the other hand, fell to the San Diego Bombers last night by a score of 6-4.
Despite a regular season marked by player departures and roster changes, the Saints aim to finish strong in their final game. With the playoffs only a few days away, the Saints are looking to build momentum and confidence heading into the postseason. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Field.
